An earlier project in 2003 had demonstrated the value of using willow and the fun that pupils derived from taking part in planting and watering the resulting structure.

As a result artist Spencer Jenkins was commissioned to work with pupils on designs for a living willow structure. After various 'den building' sessions a 3 metre long tunnel was designed which was planted with living willow. Not only does the tunnel function as an exciting play element but it also can be cropped to provide willow material for future projects.
