Alcester Street : Stitching the thread

A cast brick thread line that was 'stitched' through the paving scheme was used to draw pedestrians through the space and into the shopping centre.

The bricks have impressions of scissors, needles and other textures as well as words which relate to the industrial processes that the needle making industry used such as 'eyeing' and 'pointing'.

The casts were produced with the help of local school children and were cast in LG4 gun metal - a type of bronze: at Reid Foundry in Cradley Heath, West Midlands.
