Stone delivery from China

The carved stone blocks have been delivered from China and are being stored in a depot near Stratford Upon Avon.

The final session - this time without the luxury of a proper printing press. So we improvised ( !) and used a 'back of the spoon' technique to re-create the effect of rolling the plates through the press.
Although there was the potential for chaos it has to be said that everyone put a lot of effort into making their prints and i'd say they were pretty impressed.
To finish off pupils coloured their hand artwork using ink and water. They are of such a high quality that they should be framed.
Now all this work needs to be put togther into a final design proposal for the school public art piece. Watch this space...

Workshop 07 - Alexandra High School

Today we concentrated on a new idea - using hands as a starting point for line designs for the 'OUr Hands, Our Future' theme that has now emerged as the schools favourite direction.
Pupils drew around their hands and then drew designs that reflected their interests, passions and lives. Next we placed perspex panels over the designs and scratched into the materila using sharpened 6" nails. These will be our printing plates for the last and final session.

This was our final day working together. A chance to catch up with some of the pupils who had missed out on the printing in the last session and finish their pieces.

We also revealed some of the baby hand plaster casts. A bit like an archaeological dig.

Today was the day when we turned our scratched designs into printed artworks using the art room press. It helps that Kerry is a print making artist in her spare time as she could demonstrate the techniques to the pupils. There really is an element of magic that occurs when you roll the plate through the press and then reveal the print by pulling the soaked paper off the plate. Brilliant!
