Staffordshire is a Wave 6a authority in the national Building Schools for the Future Programme.
The first part of Staffordshire’s programme will see investment in secondary schools in Tamworth and Rugeley. Work is planned to begin in 2011 and be completed by 2014
In December 2009, primary schools in Tamworth and Rugeley were offered the opportunity for a group of Key Stage 2 pupils to take part in a day’s programme at The National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas. 120 pupils from 26 schools attended.
The aim of the engagement programme was to gain primary pupils’ input and views on four areas which contribute to school design and environment. The day consisted of 4 workshops which considered how we learn, where we learn, the importance of colour in school buildings and the outside environment.
The Primary School programme complemented the secondary schools work, lead by The Sorrell Foundation. Secondary schools in Tamworth and Rugeley took part in 3 events culminating in the production and presentation of the pupils' brief.
Schools who had taken part in both programmes celebrated their work in February 2010.
