Melton Post 16 scheme

We're working with Willmott Dixon Construction and Leicestershire County Council to deliver the interior scheme for the new Melton Vale Post 16 Centre. Completion is due in January 2011. The centre is sited on the grounds of the existing King Edward VII High School although it will serve students from a wider constituency.

Birmingham BSF schemes

We're pleased to announce that we've appointed to deliver the public art input into two new BSF schemes in Birmingham. We'll be looking forward to working with Four Dwellings Primary School in Quinton ( Architects : DRMM) and the International School in Shard End ( Architects : FAT ) later in September when they come back from the summer break.

Shirland Primary School New Build (updated)

Work has been progressing really well in the engagement workshops with pupils at Shirland Primary school. We've been exploring a number of potential design areas including wayfinding, classroom features, playground features and manifestation designs. The school have now broken up for the summer holiday which gives us teh time to generate proposals based on all the collected resources from the workshops.

CRF Leicester University

We're working with Willmott Dixon and Capita Archietcture on the CRF scheme at Leicester University to assist in developing the internal finishes and providing client mood boards. The scheme is currently under construction and due for completion later this year.

Littleton Green Maypole Dancing

Lots of excited pupils at Littleton Green school have been preparing their maypole dances ready for the official launch next week. The maypole was made by artist Tim Tolkien as part of the mosaic feature we installed in November 2009.

Rutland Primary Schools refurbishment

We're pleased to announce that we're going to be working with Willmott Dixon Construction and Rutland County Council to deliver engagement workshops for 12 Primary schools that are being refurbished in the next 12 months. Starting in July 2010; there will be 3 phases of work with Brook Hill, Southfields, Ryhall and Edith Weston Primary schools in the first group.

Pupils will take part in creative workshops to help develop ideas for colour and furniture schemes to enliven and transform their learning spaces.

Shirland Primary School New Build

We're to begin work on the interior scheme and art features for the new build scheme in Shirland. Together with pupils we will be developing ideas generated in the initial engagement programme and taking them several steps further. Amongst the various wild and wonderful elements that we will be developing is an idea to create and install a series of 'hidden' newts that will appear in different sizes and materials throughout the site. Those who have been following the progress of this scheme will know that the Great Crested newts found on the site have, until now, caused the programme a few (shall we say) challenges!

Littleton Green Maypole

A special maypole commissioned from artist Tim Tolkien who worked with us on the scheme has been installed at Littleton Green and pupils have been practising their dancing in readiness for the Spring Fair.

The maypole has been fabricated from mild steel and painted in the external render colours of the school. It's been located in the middle of the mosaic that pupils made with artist Eric Klein Velderman as part of their new build engagement work.

In Memoriam : Paul Yuen

Sadly the last session at The Westminster School began with the terrible news that art teacher Paul Yuen had passed away suddenly and unexpectedly last week. It is of course a terrible shock for students and staff and we extend our deepest sympathies to his relatives.

For ourselves we'd like to pay tribute to the enthusiasm and care that Paul showed towards us in developing the public art programme workshops. We had several planning meetings and his boundless enthusiasm was motivating and gave the work a clear direction. We shall miss him and hope that our work will honour his memory.

Broadway Birmingham BSF

We've been commissioned by the Birmingham LEP to deliver stake holder engagement projects working with Cottrell & Vermuelen Architecture and other design team colleagues. Phase 1 of the scheme is due for completion end of May 2010 and Phase 2 September 2011.

We'll be working with pupils to develop a range of creative interventions which will be embeded into the overall design of the scheme.

Masefield Community Centre

We've been commissioned to work with residents this March to produce a new gateway for the centre based on a design we used at Brocks Hill School last year.

Our association with Masefield goes back a long way - we first worked with the centre in 1992 and have periodically over the last ( goodness knows how many) years been going back.

A mixture of participants old and young will work together to produce drawn designs which will be lazer cut and fixed to the central disk. The archway will be located at the front of the building as a bright and welcoming feature to the work that goes inside the building.

Staffordshire Primary BSF

Final finishing touches are being put together for an event day which will bring together secondary pupils who have been working with the Sorrell Foundation on their pupil briefs and primary school pupils who worked with us late last year. Depicted are large body plans which were used to explore ideas around colour, the outside environment, learnin and social spaces. These will be converted into a series of 10 pop up banner stands as part of the event.

Sandwell BSF Rowley campus

We've started the pupil engagement workshop programme for Rowley campus which is part of the Sandwell BSF scheme. Pupils are investigating designs for stained glass feature glazing which will form a prominent signature piece for the new school. Working with teh Design & Technology department pupils have been sketching ideas and producing draft visualisations which will be developed into final designs later.

George Ward Centre

Plans are progressing with the George Ward Centre in Barwell. Despite the snow the steel structure is up and the building is taking shape. We've been meeting with members of the Steering Committee to agree floor and wall finishes as well as the furniture layouts. The tree image shown which is part of the centre's new identity and will be used for an entrance glazing manifestation design.

Staffordshire Primary BSF workshops

We're working with primary schools in Staffordshire to develop pupil briefs for the BSF programme. The first stage in this consultation process involved 36 primary schools taking part in 3 days of workshops at the National Memorial Arboretum in December to explore and express views about the designs of their new schools.

The consultation programme was led by architects Bryant Priest Newman along with ourselves, Littleton Green Primary school and officers from the County Council. Participants took part in 4 workshops exploring learning spaces, social spaces, the outside spaces and colour.

Meadows official opening

The Meadows Special School new build scheme was officially opened yesterday by Councillor Ian Parry and VIPs from Staffordshire County Council. The new school has attracted national interest due to its genuine integration with the attached Leek High school and co-located special needs primary school which share the campus.

New Wave seats

Longfield school have ordered six of our exciting Wave seats to enhance their atrium space. The Wave seats have been designed for both interior and exterior uses in any commercial, retail and residential setting. The seat was shortlisted for the BdI Industry & Genius Awards 2007. The curved seat is manufactured from polished GRP ( glass resin plastic) and is available in any RAL colour.

Longfield school manifestation

Manifestation designs printed onto transparent film for Longfield school have been approved and will be installed next week. The design is based on words provided by the school and will be installed on glazing screens measuring 1400mm wide by 1000mm high for the Learning Resource Centre.

Littleton Green manifestations

Manifestations for the playdeck glazing based on leaf drawings produced by pupils are being installed this week at Littleton Green. In addition to these leaves there will also be leaf designs on the classroom vision panels. Each classroom has a unique tree identity which is expressed with a leaf panel and the name of the tree.
