Cantoo was commissioned by St Georges Cof E primary school to work with pupils to design and manufacture a gateway into their nature area. We undertook a series of exploratory workshops to help produce a design. We subsequently worked with pupils to make clay patterns which were then used to make the concrete casts. References for the final design included the 1970s cast concrete bas relief that was installed when the school first opened. The textures of the concrete were intended to represent the scales of a dragon's skin.
